A message from AfMA's Executive Director...

The Association has just completed a series of seminars throughout Australia entitled ‘legislative update’ which brought to the member’s attention the numerous changes challenging the fleet industry.

Each day more issues arise adding to the level of complexity and uncertainty. Issues linked to the ‘Henry Report’ and its suggested treatment of FBT, the new ‘International Accounting Standard’, the mandatory requirement of ‘Electronic Stability Control’ (ESC), developments in the application of OH&S requirements and responsibilities as outlined in the High Court verdict in case of Kirk v The Industrial Relations Commission of NSW and the early/late adoption of Euro 5/6 emissions standards.

In addition there is the race within the differing automotive regions around the world regarding the adoption of advanced emissions and safety technology (see article ‘A race to new technology which compares technology adoption in UK/Europe versus Australia) and how that might effect purchasing decisions and their likely impact on sales of locally produced vehicles.

As all these issues weigh heavily on the Fleet Managers mind, needless to say the Association will continue monitoring developments, lobby for equitable outcomes and persist with our efforts in ‘driving fleet management’ on our member’s behalf.

Thank you for your continuing support and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Marja Thompson
Executive Director
